My Setup and suppliers!

I use a lot of equipment and a lot of suppliers. So if you want to know what I've got and where to get bits this is the page!  This is who I have used or what I have bought. I'm sure there are more suppliers and products out there, I've never had to go searching to find them yet.

Equipment

  • Soldering station : Hakko FX 888D - This really is an excellent station, I wish I had two.
  • Desoldering station : ZD-985
  • Hot air rework station : Quick 861DW
  • Oscilloscope : Rigol DS1504
  • Microscope : Andonstar
  • Fume extractor : Hakko FA-400

Parts Suppliers

It pays to plan your parts purchases ahead and also have multiple project on the go.  It can save you money buying parts in quantity, not just for postage ( which can be free over a certain threshold ) but also multiples discounts.

Sometimes you just have to shop around to get the parts you need.  All of these suppliers are great, be sure to check their shipping on items to get yourself the best deal!
  • Element 14 - FREE Postage above $50 AUD
  • Mouser - FREE Postage above $60 AUD ( for most items ).
  • Digikey - FREE Postage above $60 AUD*
  • LCSC - Standard courier rates
  • Core Electronics ( Australia )
  • Jaycar ( Australia )
Avoid the following if you can.
  • RS Components - FREE Postage above $150 AUD
    • RS Components are concentrating on Business customers.

PCB Prototyping

I've only ever used two suppliers, one in the US and PCBWay.  PCBWay have always been great on customer service and price, although express shipping is expensive.  Again it pays to have multiple projects on the go to mitigate the shipping costs.  The other US company was okay, just really expensive for anyone outside of the US.

It may seem daunting to use the Instant quote tool at first.  Don't worry it's really not hard, after a few goes you'll find it a breeze.  Just be patient at the Paypal screen and let it finish the transaction completely.  I've screwed up a few times but customer service have always sorted it all out VERY quickly.
  • PCBWay
